• To schedule an appointment, message me directly either via the contact form on this website (which goes to email), instagram DM, or email me at amyhood.hair@gmail.com. I don’t have a preference. I don’t offer online booking at the moment.

  • My rates are hourly, all-inclusive, and gratuity-free. My rate for 2024 is 115/hour. Exact pricing is by in-person consultation, please contact me to get a consultation scheduled. All new clients must book a consultation prior to scheduling a color service.

  • Some inspiration pictures, honesty, kindness and an open mind

The consultation itself is complimentary. If we go forward with scheduling I do collect a $50 deposit at the time of booking. This is non-refundable but goes toward your service cost. I don’t like for you to feel pressured to schedule just because you came and talked to me— you’re welcome to shop around or go home and think about it, and to reach out to schedule and pay the deposit at a later date.

  • If possible, please let me know as soon as you can that you’ll be running late! I have a fifteen minute grace period, beyond that the appointment may be considered a no-show (if I haven’t heard from you) or we may need to reschedule. I understand that life happens but I need to stay on schedule as well and I will never rush through a service.

  • 17 rankin ave in downtown Asheville— I’m right across from the rankin ave parking garage, which is the most convenient option. Additionally nearby is the civic center parking garage, various metered street parking and other paid lots.

  • My preference is clean (shampooed within 48 hours prior to appointment), dry, no excess product build up (please especially any root color sprays!), not excessively tangled or manipulated by clips or hair ties.

But life isn’t always perfect— you will never be judged for arriving in any other condition.

My exception to the “clean” preference is those who get on-scalp bleach (bleach applied directly to the root area/scalp, not in foil) sometimes prefer to go a few extra days dirty due to scalp sensitivity.

I also recommend not wearing your favorite clothes ever because despite taking every precaution, accidents do happen. Avoid hoodies, turtlenecks, and bulky sweaters as well. Necklaces and earrings will need to be removed as well, keep this in mind.

  • All of it! I love reds and vivids/fashion colors most of all though. Classic grey coverage roots, grey blending, brunettes, lived in blondes as well. Take a look through my portfolio to get an idea of my range but I’m also very excited to go out of the box, feel free to bring me your crazy ideas!

  • I am a colorist first and foremost, but I’m more than happy to help you with your simple haircut needs as part of your color service package (trim, long layers, long shag, curtain bangs/bangs)

I do have some wonderful friends in the industry that I refer out to for more intricate haircut requests (pixie, angled bob, barber fades, mullet/shullet)

I’m happy to share clients with a hair cutting specialist if you come to me and already have someone who you love who cuts your hair.

  • “Tipping” culture has some pretty problematic history, on top of that it’s become a hot button issue over the last few years. A lot of society has “tipping fatigue,” coupled with confusion over who we should be tipping and how much. I own my own business and I set my own prices, therefore I’m able to set them at a rate that additional is not required. It also removes the emotional component: the client doesn’t feel awkward about not knowing whatever secret magic number I’ve determined is an appropriate tip, and I don’t have to worry about if they leave less than that or nothing if there was something wrong with the service they received.

Because I’ve been asked before: I do occasionally have clients who absolutely insist on leaving additional, but my card processing will not prompt for it, and it is entirely not expected of you.

  • Absolutely, just let me know and I'll keep all the talking specifically about your hair. You are so welcome to read, get some work done, or simply zone out and relax during your appointment.

  • I use square as my card processing company and it can take anything, including Apple Pay. No checks please.

  • I work Tuesday-Saturday generally 10:00-4:00. Please note I do not offer evening appointments.

  • I prefer not to have any additional guests not receiving a service in attendance, barring any extenuating circumstances. As always, I understand that life happens and there are exceptions.

  • Please don’t be shy— it happens and edits are a natural part of our process sometimes! I want you to be happy. Services are non-refundable but I’m happy to make reasonable edits within two weeks of the original service. Please note that reasonable edits take into consideration what was discussed in the original consultation and are intended to bring us closer to that goal. A change in what was discussed in the initial consultation is not considered an edit and will be considered a new service.
